Angel Beats! review: Let the music flow through you! Even in the afterlife!

At last I have conquered the hill known as the wonderful anime Angel Beats! When I encountered this anime, a couple episodes in I thought that "Angel Beats!" was a fitting title well, for Angel being Angel and her real name having musical meaning.

Check out the awesome duet opening!

For me, the pacing was alright, not too slow not too fast, even though this series was only 13 episodes long. At first to be honest with you, I was very confused on what happened at the start, apparently the main character who is an amnesiac finds out he needs to fight this girl simply known as Angel by joining this force who are "rebels against God", and they are known as the Battlefront.

I think all the characters in the series were very colorful and unique in their own ways. Personally I liked how this show was not at all like another show, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It seemed like Yuri wanted to be God of that world, but Yuzuru was the one who kept her in check the whole series. Everyone who has seen the series know who is the most colorful character of them all...TK. The interesting thing is that we know close to nothing about this character, I thought that P.A. Works should have delved more into his backstory at least a bit. However, P.A. Works does do a great job to focus on certain key characters' backstories and details on how those characters died, as to not confuse the viewer.

The whole tone of the series was excellent. With the exception that the Afterlife that gets heavily implied, there are indeed happy moments in there. By happy moments I meant that this anime can make you laugh your ass off to go to a total tear-jerker.

CONCLUSION:

All in all, P.A. Works has done a remarkable job in making this anime. From the soundtrack to the colorful cast of characters, there is an important lesson embedded in this anime. The Lesson is that: when you die, your soul should never be alone, it will always find happiness in some shape or form.
